Tuning

Tuning pianos is a wonderful thing.  It is part art and part science.  My methods use a combination of modern electronics and fine adjustments by ear.  This is what the best tuners in the world do now, from concert stages to recording studios.  Nothing makes a good piano sound better than a great tuning.

Touch

The touch of your piano can be improved and kept even by a series of fine adjustments to the hundreds of parts that make up the piano's moving parts.  The process is called action regulation.  If it is off, the piano cannot play soft or loud with control.  Sometimes notes will not repeat as they should when out of adjustment.  The process is quite involved, but the goal is very simple: even touch with the responsive touch a pianist needs to excel.

Cleaning

All pianos need cleaning from time to time, especially the grand where it shows more and gathers more dust and debris.  While I always dust when I tune, a thorough cleaning can take an hour or more.  The places under the strings require special tools and a practice hand.  Cleaning protects the piano from rust and cosmetic problems which are sometimes permanent.  I can make your piano look great!

Tone

The tone of a piano is in part built in.  We cannot make an old small spinet sound like a concert grand.  We can make a piano that is too tinny or bright sounding sound more mellow.  We can also make a dull piano sound more lively by voicing the hammers.  The felt hammers benefit from a variety of methods to achieve these ends.  It is important even for a beginner to have the notes sound with similar tone as we play a simple song or exercise.  Voicing is the way we get great depth in tone and a great range in tone colors for beautiful music.
